    The University of California rowing community is mourning the loss of  T. Gary Rogers, a successful business leader and philanthropist who died May 2 while playing tennis at his Oakland home. The former Cal oarsman famously built Dryers Grand Ice Cream into one of the world’s leading premium ice cream brands, which Nestlé acquired in 2002. But in the rowing community he will be remembered for his lifelong support of Cal men’s crew—the university’s T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center is named in his honor—and for founding the high-performance California Rowing Club in 2004.
