The World Masters Games that comes once every four years was this April. The rowing was April 24-28 on the world class Lake Karapiro course. Everything about this regatta was world class, from the quality and depth of competition—there were over 40 entries in many events—to the organization and execution by the organizers, to the equipment, weather, and venue. I have been rowing and competing for 43 years and this is the best regatta I have ever been to. It was a true championship regatta with heats, semis, finals (which is getting extremely rare, unfortunately, in the world of finals-only masters regattas). Yet not one word about it in your magazine. I have watched carefully the last three issues: May, June, and now July). What gives?

The University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agriculture Extension Sarasota County composting program is using the power of sports to influence change. The composting team set up 42 composting bins at the June 9-11 USRowing Youth National Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. The project helped raise awareness of composting among athletes and spectators by showing how quickly and easily anyone can compost.
